Synopsis by Hal Erickson

This Biograph "monastic drama" was set during Feudal Times. Kidnapping the wife of one of his vassals, a despotic Duke forces the girl to join his euphemistically-named "ladies in waiting." Forced to leave her tiny baby at home, the girl weeps uncontrollably, until finally the Duke relents and gives her back her freedom. Upon arriving home, she discovers that her husband has joined a monastery and has taken the child with him. Unaware of her family's whereabouts, the poor heroine loses her mind. Tortured by guilt for the pain he has caused, the Duke heads to the monastery, there to do penance for his sins. The monk who presides over his confession is the self-same husband, who after forgiving the Duke returns to his long-suffering wife. George Nichols and Arthur V. Johnson were among the D.W.Griffith stock players appearing in this one-reel film.
