Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

Hassan (Nour Cherif) works as a bus driver during the day and is forced to drive a taxi at night, simply because he wants to raise enough money to save his aging father's carpentry business. Hassan's wife (Merval-Amin) does not understand why he is trying so hard to help out his father, and she is against his night job, arguing with him to sell the taxi -- which belongs to her anyway. These disputes often end with Hassan beating her up. One of Hassan's sisters is married to a man who is in the smuggling business, working out of the port. He refuses to hand over any of his booty to help out his father-in-law. Another sister is married to a businessman with enough money to buy several carpentry shops, but he is no better than the smuggler when it comes to human generosity. Finally, Hassan's third sister, married to a Kuwaiti citizen, says that she and her husband are both willing to give her father the money they have saved to buy an apartment. That selfless act could rescue the carpentry business, but it is too late. The aged father dies before he can learn that the money to save his shop is on the way. Frustrated and grief-stricken, Hassan decides to change his personal life, he is no longer willing to turn a blind eye to the petty (and not so petty) corruption he sees percolating around him.
