A middle-class mother and pastor's wife from the suburbs of Lincoln, Nebraska adopts a troubled 11-year-old boy who challenges her capacity for unconditional love by attempting to manipulate her, and repeatedly clashing with the police. When Pastor Zebediah Williams and his wife Annika agreed to adopt Carl, they knew that raising a child from the streets would pose its fair share of challenges. Over time Carl shows a disturbing penchant for trying to turn Annika against her loyal family and friends, a revelation that prompts the faithful woman to pray for the strength to lead him toward a righteous path, and accept him into the family.
