Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Nice guy Marcellus Starr (Hale Hamilton) is not the easy mark people assume him to be, but swindler Barrett Prentice (Herbert Prior) doesn't realize that. Prentice and his "niece," Josephine Pollock (Grace LaRue), are out to get Starr's fifteen thousand dollars by offering to involve his men's clothing store in a chain they are supposedly creating. Starr apparently falls for the scheme, and he definitely falls for Josephine. The trio travel to Chicago, and Prentice and Josephine do their best to impress him. Back at home, Starr gives Prentice and Josephine his savings, plus five thousand dollars which he has held in trust for his niece. But Josephine's conscience brings the game to a halt. Unable to live with swindling the niece's money, she steals it back, only to find that the envelope contains no money -- just newspaper and a note from Starr saying that he knew she would try to save the little girl's funds. Josephine gladly gives up her criminal life to be with the man she's learned to love. For some unknown reason, opera singer and vaudeville performer Grace LaRue -- who was engaged to Hale Hamilton at the time this film was made -- was billed as "Stella Gray" in this picture. The scenario was adapted from a Saturday Evening Post story by Richard Washburn Child.
