Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Riddance (Szabad Ielegzet) fully articulates Hungarian filmmaker Marta Meszaros' disdain for her country's older generation. The factory-worker hero falls in love with a orphaned girl who was raised in a state institution. The boy's parents strenuously object to his alliance with so socially unacceptable a mate. Hero and heroine are thus compelled to carry on an elaborate deception to keep anyone from knowing about their deep mutual devotion. Riddance has also been released under the piquant title Free Breathing.
