Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man who has worked out the details of his death discovers not everyone around him shares his enthusiasm for suicide in this independent drama from debuting director Luzius Rueedi. Gabriel (Karsten Mielke), in his mid-twenties, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and has no more than a few months to live. Having helped his family through the recent passing of his grandmother, Gabriel is aware of the grim realities of what awaits him, and he decides he'd rather kill himself than linger to a painful demise. Through postings in internet chat rooms, Gabriel finds several other people in his age group who also want to end their lives, and he arranges for them to meet at Sunny Hill, a vacation home in the Swiss alps owned by his grandfather. Gabriel has found a spot where they can leaps to their deaths, but once the group gets together, not all of them focus on the task at hand. Michael (Patrick Rapold) treats the plan as a joke, and Jo (Araba Walton) finds herself attracted to him. Rafael (Christian Weber), who is documenting the weekend on videotape, becomes similarly infatuated with Anil (Maryam Zaree). Maja (Uta Kargel) refuses to bond with the others, and Reto (Beat Marti), a policeman who knows Gabriel, insists on visiting the group uninvited. Sunny Hill received its North American premiere at the 2008 Montreal World Film Festival.
