Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Evidently, PRC hoped to match the success of its 1946 "family" film The Enchanted Forest with 1947's Stepchild, which like Forest stars Brenda Joyce. The story concerns wife and mother Dale Bullock (Joyce) who neglects her husband Ken (Donald Woods) and children Jimmy and Tommy (Gregory Marshall and Tommy Ivo) to pursue her career. In standard pre-ERA fashion, Ken divorces Dale and gains custody of the children. For their sake, he marries again, but his second wife Millie (Terry Austin) mistreats the kids. A tragedy is averted when both Dale and Ken come to their senses and reconcile. Unfortunately, Stepchild engendered laughter in the wrong places when it premiered in mid-1947.
