When John Blake (Montagu Love) was a boy, his father was the gardener for the Fairchilds, an aristocratic family. The elder Blake was discharged when John got into a fight with one of the Fairchild's young guests. But John grows up to make a fortune in steel and the Fairchilds find themselves hard-up financially. So he buys the estate and marries their daughter Eleanor (June Elvidge), who needs his money to maintain her social status. But the guest with whom John fought comes back to town and tries to entice Eleanor to run off with him. She is tempted, and when John finds out, he is willing to let her have a divorce. Eleanor, however, discovers that the interloper has been deceitful, and that she has grown to love her husband, who she now feels doesn't want her. She prepares to go away by herself, but John stops her and they reconcile.
