synopsis
Though its title suggests a patriotic melodrama, Gaumont's Spanish Loyalty was actually what would later be designated as a "newsreel." The film opens with an establishing shot of Spain's King Alfonso XVIII and his entourage. The audience is then made witness to the spectacle of the Spanish Army marching in formation and kissing their country's flag. After an impressive demonstration of military maneuvers, the Army pays tribute to King Alfonso and his guests, including the Royal Family of England. Reportedly, this film included a brief glimpse of Queen Victoria, who had passed away in 1901.
