Synopsis by Cara Saposnik
In 1940, a group of Jews escaping from Nazi Europe fled to the Dominican Republic. This is a documentary about the community who was allowed refuge by dictator Rafael Trujillo. Of the 32 nations that met at the 1938 Evian conference, only the Dominican Republic offered sanctuary to this fleeing population. The story of the contemporary community, with all its joys and conflict, is told against the backdrop of a courageous history.
