Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
A co-production between Czech television and the BBC, filmmaker Mira Erdevicki's revealing documentary traces the plight of a Czech Romany family who has applied for asylum in Britain. Although the fact that many members of the family are still waiting for their claims to be processed is a key aspect of the film, the importance of this fact plays secondary to the human angle of the story as the sons and daughters of Ester Kovacova attempt to bide their time in their new home in Britain while dealing with their mother's recent death. Torn between their Czech past and their future in Britain, the film follows the next generation of Kovacovas for two and a half years as they attempt to find footing in a new and unfamiliar environment.
