In this adaptation of an O. Henry story, pretty Elsie Leeson (Jean Paige) moves into the smallest quarters of a rooming house run by Mrs. Parker (Grace Ashley). In the evening, she sits on the front steps with some of the other boarders, and one night, she points to a star and says that she has named it "Billy Jackson." Elsie finds work hard to come by, and slowly she starves. Finally, she passes out from hunger and Mrs. Parker calls an ambulance. The doctor who arrives is the actual Billy Jackson (William Lampe), and he rushes Elsie to the hospital, where she recovers.
