Synopsis by Mark Deming

Acclaimed classical guitarist John Williams was interested in exploring new creative avenues when he formed the group Sky with bassist Herbie Flowers, drummer Tristan Fry, and keyboardist Francis Monkman in 1978, in which they combined classical melodies with the musical approach of soft rock and progressive rock. Sky: Live Across Europe was recorded during a stop in Germany during the group's 1980 tour of Europe, and captures the group's dazzling skill and whimsical humor in full strength. Selections include "Westway," "Cavatina," "Gymnopedia No. 1," "Cannonball," and many more.
