synopsis
Greta Garbo, in one of her last silent films, plays the wealthy Arden Stuart, a free-spirited woman who defies societal conventions by refusing to marry the millionaire Tommy Hewlett (Johnny Mack Brown) and instead has an affair with Anthony Kendall (Robert Castle), the family chauffeur. But Anthony kills himself and Arden proceeds to take up with another denizen of the lower classes, Packy Cannon (Nils Asther), an ex-prizefighter who has decided to become an artist. However, as they sail away to an idyllic spot in the tropics, Arden begins to realize that there is no place like home and she abandons her free-thinking ways in the hope that Tommy will take her back.
