Even though Barret Steele (Frank Keenan) is a notorious womanizer, he is also a brilliant criminal lawyer. A friend of his, who is also a libertine, assaults his stenographer Alice (Margery Wilson), who kills him. Steele is about to offer his services to the prosecution when he gets a call from his longtime estranged wife, Mary (Louise Brownell) -- it turns out that Alice is the daughter he never knew, and Mary wants Steele to defend her. In addition, Steele's life is being threatened by Robert Darrow (Howard Hickman) because he has been having an affair with Darrow's wife (Margaret Thompson). Steele begs Darrow to hold off so that he can save his daughter, and Darrow agrees. In court, Steele gets humble and admits his own philandering, with the assertion that all men like him should be shot. Alice is acquitted, and Steele's wife forgives him, but he returns to Darrow to take his medicine. Darrow, however, sends him back to his family. Future film star John Gilbert had a small supporting role in this picture.
