Back when there were drive-in movie theaters, fare like Shadows Run Black served a purpose; when included on a triple-bill with similar films, young adults found it was worth the three dollars per carload to see such execrable entertainment. Chances are that no one but the very, very sensitive were ever frightened by Shadows Run Black, but many, many must have been bored silly. Low-budget doesn't begin to describe the production values, and "rank amateur" doesn't come near the best you can say about the cast. No doubt Kevin Costner, who appears to be about 15-years-old here -- in reality, he was 26 (the film was made in 1981) -- would like to have this expunged from his record. You might like to have it expunged from your DVD player.
