Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Aimed at high-school audiences, Seventeen is a story of happiness compromised by bigotry. The heroine, a 17-year-old white New Yorker named Lynn, falls in love for the first time in her life. Her boy friend happens to be black, which makes no never mind to Lynn but which shocks her family and her neighbors. The film provides no easy answers, obliging the viewers to exercise their own judgement. Though running 2 hours, Seventeen maintains a high level of audience interest and attention.
