This spin-off from the long-running British cop show Z-Cars featured two of the earlier series' most popular characters, detectives Charlie Barlow and John Watt, respectively played by Stratford Johns and Frank Windsor. In the tradition of the American series Tales of the Texas Rangers, the two protagonists journeyed backward and forward through time to investigate famous unsolved or unsatisfactory resolved real-life crime cases. Among the files re-opened by Barlow and Watt were the Jack the Ripper affair and the Lizzie Borden murders. Six 50-minute episodes of Second Verdict were carried by BBC1 from May 27 to July 1, 1976.
