At a time when mainstream rap is more about "bling" and beefs than music, the heart and soul of true hip-hop is alive and well -- in Ohio. Cincinnati's annual Scribble Jam is a music festival that focuses on the real and positive aspects of hip-hop, from passionate MC battles to breakdancing competitions and workshops on graffiti art and other aspects of street culture. Scribble Jam, Vol. 9 is a documentary that captures the highlights of the 2004 edition of the event, in which 17-year-old Illmaculate became the youngest winner of the MC competition, two of Canada's best rappers (Brace and Scratch Bastid) go head to head in a rhyming contest, and b-boy crews demonstrate old and new styles of breaking.
