Featuring exquisite photography, this powerful big-budget silent epic adventure chronicles the daring exploit of a law student cum French revolutionary who becomes an outlaw for the people to avenge the unjust killing of his closest friend by a dastardly nobleman. To get close to the aristocrat, the outlaw disguises himself as the clown Scaramouche and takes up with a traveling troupe of actors. Trouble comes when the woman he loves spurns him in favor of the hated blue-blood's affections. Scaramouche then asks for the hand of one his lovely cohorts who turns out to be the mistress of his nemesis. Fortunately, his true love learns of the affair and returns to Scaramouche. During the revolution the courageous clown joins the fray and after some derring-do, sees the mortal wounding of the nobleman who tells him a shocking secret before he expires.
