Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
The potential cruelty of outmoded traditions plays a central role in this slow-paced, talky Indian drama about two star-crossed lovers. A young woman from a small village has fallen in love with a schoolteacher but a marriage between them is not really possible because he is from a lower caste. At the same time as they are struggling with this dilemma, the woman's father and a village leader continue to fuel a long-standing animosity. As a part of this feud, the village leader kidnaps the woman and under his control, she and the schoolteacher are married. The ultimate result is tragic for the new couple.
