Synopsis
Author N. Scott Momaday hosts this chronicle of a Colorado River rafting expedition through the Grand Canyon that retraces a trek made in 1889 by engineer Robert Brewster Stanton. Stanton's purpose: to survey the land for a proposed rail line through the canyon (it was to have run from Grand Junction, Colo., to the Pacific). Included: excerpts from Stanton's diary and photographs taken by Stanton and members of his expedition.
