Polly Eccles (Vivian Martin) lives in the slums with her drunken father and little brother Billy (Baby Jack White). When a doctor says that Billy must find a healthier climate in which to live, Polly packs up her belongings in a baby carriage and tries to take her brother on a cross-country trek to California. They are befriended by hobo Big Bill (Alfred Hollingsworth), and later they are helped out by Kirk Drummond, a millionaire's son (Colin Chase). He takes them to the home of his father (Herbert Standing). Polly and Kirk get involved in a lot of complications -- for example, the discovery that the Drummond mill is about to be blown up -- before the father puts his blessing on their union.
