Synopsis by Bhob Stewart
This Finnish period drama -- set during the 1918 civil war after Finland's independence from Russia -- concerns a village Lutheran priest with a small parish and self-doubts, as revealed in his correspondence to his brother, a White Army officer. At a time when opposing factions approach the priest's remote area in eastern Finland, he's put in charge of a young prisoner who has been fighting for the Reds. Shown at the 1998 Rouen Festival of Nordic Cinema.
