Poverty row producer Lester F. Scott, Jr. specialized in "modern dress" Westerns (that way he could save the expenses on the girl's wardrobe), but in The Ramblin' Galoot he might have gone too far. The hero, cowpuncher Buddy Royle (Buddy Roosevelt), is not only handy around the cattle but a golfing enthusiast to boot. Buddy teaches the upscale sport to Pansy Price (Violet La Plante) and her father, Colonel Price (Frederick Lee), but is interrupted in the middle of teeing off by the nefarious schemes of crooked bank cashier Roger Farnley (Charles "Slim" Whitaker). Farnley has Buddy kidnapped, but Pansy manages to free the young golfer, who quickly brings the villain to justice. Back on the green, Buddy and Pansy are betrothed. La Plante, who sometimes billed herself Violet Avon, was the sister of Universal star Laura La Plante.
