synopsis
This disjointed Keystone 2-reeler stars Charlie Chaplin, who also directed. Chaplin is the prop man at a vaudeville house where Garlico the Strong Man (Fritz Schade) is the main attraction. Though he's constantly browbeaten by Garlico, Chaplin is hardly a sympathetic character, forever kicking an elderly grip in the posterior while flirting outrageously with the showgirls. One bit involving a stray glass of beer gives Chaplin the opportunity for an uproariously vulgar bit of business, which was often cut by local censors back in 1914. The Property Man, Chaplin's 21st Keystone film, was reissued as Getting His Goat, The Roustabout, Props and Charlie on the Boards.
