Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
The official sent to a rural area in Bulgaria, who is to perform a census of the wild hare population, is a stuffy, overbearing fellow, and he irritates the local country folk. Instead of resisting him openly, however, they play a series of pranks on him which, as a city-bred type, he does not suspect. By the time he must return to the city, he has not seen a single hare, much less taken a census of the hares of the district. However, because of the goodwill arising out of a picnic late in his stay, he doesn't leave unhappy or empty-handed.
