synopsis
This vintage Claude Chabrol outing was released in America as Cop au Vin. A greedy threesome have their eyes on a valuable piece of property. First, however, they must find a way to evict the occupants: widowed, incapacitated Stephane Audran and her delivery-boy son Lucas Belvaux. A murder results, arousing the insatiable professional curiosity of police inspector Jean Poiret. Charlie Chaplin's daughter Josephine plays one of the conspirators. Another of Chabrol's deeply felt bouquets to American crime films, Poulet au Vinaigre was followed by a 1985 sequel, Inspecteur Lavardin.
