Synopsis by Sarah Ing
Considered one of England's greatest artists, Ben Nicholson was a leader in the abstract style. His unique body of work is explored in this one-hour program. Nicholson was influenced early on by the paintings of Picasso and Braque. His technique began to shift in the early '30s into a more personal mode as figurative work gave way to abstract ideas. Many visits to Paris also affected Nicholson, who attempted to define an international modern style. Nicholson emerged as a new voice of England with his White Relief.
