Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

This exploration of the fate of jazz in 1980s America focuses on the life and times of a small hole-in-the-wall jazz bar in the Boston area, the 1369 Club. It also makes clear that even performers who are widely celebrated and greatly appreciated elsewhere in the world are almost completely unknown in the U.S., which has long since ceased to be hospitable to this home-grown art form. Among the musicians interviewed are Archie Shepp, saxophonist Christopher Hollyday and bassist Larry Fishman.
