Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This French documentary captures Picasso at play and at work in his home. Sometimes he even discusses his work. Filmed over a number of years, with the cooperation of the artist, it also features interviews with key figures, film footage from the artist's earlier years, and large portions of his work from all periods. It includes many works which had not been seen by the public when it was filmed, and does not neglect the political aspects of his life and work. Though many shorter English-language versions of this documentary are available (up to a maximum of 90 minutes), the original French version was 140 minutes long.
