Synopsis by Mark Deming

An aging party animal is faced with the prospect of finally growing up, if that's possible, in this independent comedy-drama from filmmaker Garth Donovan. Phillip (Brian Hasenfus) is a guy in his mid-30s who hasn't changed much since he was in high school -- he still devotes his abundant free time to swilling beer, chasing teenage girls and goofing off, and while he has plenty of friends, most of them are either young enough or clueless enough not to realize Phillip is wasting his life. When Phillip's high school girlfriend comes back to town, he starts taking a long look at himself and begins to wonder if he should start cleaning up his act and try to make something of the landscaping business he's been toying with for years in hopes of winning her back. But Phillip's road to late-blooming maturing has more than a few detours, including a jailbait girlfriend with a taste for getting wasted (and a jealous ex-boyfriend) and a friend whose experience in the military has left him with some serious psychological problems. Phillip The Fossil earned leading man Brian Hasenfus an award for outstanding breakout performance at the 2010 South By Southwest Film Festival.
