synopsis
Cantinflas, the enormously popular Mexican comic actor who was once hailed the Spanish Charlie Chaplin, makes his second Hollywood appearance in Pepe. He plays the title character, a Mexican ranch hand who tries to get his much-loved white stallion back from the Hollywood director who bought it from his boss. He follows the director and the horse back to Hollywood, where gets into all kinds trouble before the story's inevitably happy ending. Made on a big budget and featuring numerous musical numbers and cameos from some of Hollywood's brightest stars, Pepe turned out to be a box-office bomb. Cantinflas never made another U.S. film. Fortunately, his career continued to flourish internationally.
