Synopsis by Janiss Garza
This ethnic tale of New York's Lower East Side was adapted from the play by Hal Reid. Abraham Jacobs (Joe Welch (a famed "portrayer of Jewish types" according to the Motion Picture News) is a peddler. Through hard work he is able to open a small clothing store and send his son Sammy (Sidney Mason) to college. But education turns the young man into a snob and a loafer. He forgets his sweetheart Sarah (Catherine Calvert) in favor of a married society woman, Mrs. Morgan (Sally Crute), and pretends his father doesn't exist. When Mr. Morgan catches his wife with Sammy, he throws her out of the house. Sammy has no money to support her, so he breaks into his father's safe, then vanishes from the old man's life. Even though Jacobs adopts a little girl, Mary (Kittens Reichert), and inherits a fortune, Sammy is constantly on his mind. Eventually his repentant son comes crawling home and all is forgiven.
