Pavee Culture: Our Ways, Our Voices is a documentary that explores the culture of Ireland's "traveling community," modern-day nomads who in less politically correct times were known as "gypsies" or "tinkers." Director Sue Russell set out to raise awareness of these travelers by interviewing members of the community and investigating their distinct language, economy, extended family networks, storytelling, and musical traditions. Despite a short running time, Pavee is packed with enough eye-opening information to generate much debate on the longevity of Traveler culture as it faces the mounting pressures of modernization.
