A seafaring action melodrama based on a 1905 novel by Joseph Crosby Lincoln, Partners of the Tide starred future cowboy hero Jack Perrin as an orphan adopted by spinster Temperance Allen (Florence Midgley). As a young adult, Perrin's Bradley Nickerson signs on as first mate of the Thomas Doone, a schooner owned by Granny Baker (Gertrude Norman). On the high seas, Bradley averts a plot to sink the ship and the insurance company hires him to investigate. As it turns out, the saboteur is Sam Hammond (Gordon Mullen, Bradley's rival for the attention of pretty Gussie Baker (Daisy Robinson). A fire breaks out on board and Bradley saves Hammond from the flames. Unrepentant, the evil rival leaves Bradley to fend for himself in the current but Gussie, finally realizing her love for the heroic young man, rows to the rescue. Produced independently at Universal City by director Irvin V. Willat, Partners of the Tide was released on the states rights market by poverty row company Hodkinson.
