Synopsis by Hal Erickson
"Where the owner gets tricked, and the car gets tricked out"--that was Overhaulin', an immensely entertainment "auto makeover" series originally cablecast on TLC (The Learning Channel). Working in concert with celebrated hot-rod renovator Chip Foose, previously employed as tech consultant on the garage-based sitcom Titus, Overhaulin' host Courtney Hansen conspired with friends and family members of the series' "victims" to borrow said victims' clunker cars, using a variety of subterfuges and prevaracations (phony insurance adjustments, fake police impoundments, fraudulent repossessions etc.) The run-down autos were then given a complete and spectacular overhaul ("from rusty wreck to dream machine")--and of course, the car's owners were invariably thrilled and delighted with the results, and not at all upset that someone had "stolen" their cars in the first place! The weekly, 60-minute Overhaulin' premiered April 14, 2004.
