synopsis
The picture that inspired thousands during WW II, destroyed the life of Ira Hamilton Hayes, one of the five Marines who was dramatically photographed the victorious U.S. flag at Iwo Jima. A Pima Indian from Arizona, he never asked to be a hero and afterward Hayes was never able to adjust to civilian life. This biopic tells his sad story beginning with his days in bootcamp and ending with his tragic inglorious death atop a lonely Arizona mountain at age 32.
