Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
Truck drivers and prostitutes ply the more far-flung highways of Brazil, leading a strange symbiotic existence, with the prostitutes eventually losing more than they gained by leaving their rural lives behind them. This fictional film focuses on a few of the women who took up with the truck drivers for awhile - some make friends with other prostitutes, some end up in brothels, and some just disappear - like the missing sister of a disabled man. Casualties of modernization, the lives of these women provide one of the more unhappy chapters in Brazilian expansion into its interior. This film won a Special Jury Prize at the 1981 Locarno Film Festival.
