From 1993 to 2006, more than 400 impoverished young women have been brutally murdered in the border town of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Repeatedly ignored by authorities and consistently unresolved despite the efforts of activists and family members to seek justice for the victims, the Ciudad Juarez murders have, for many, come to represent a frightening case in which justice is implicitly linked to prosperity and social status. With this release, filmmaker Steev Hise opts not to present a simple murder-mystery style documentary exploring the crimes, but a revealing study of an environment in which a series of gruesome murders can not only continue, but continue to go unpublished as well.
