Synopsis by Nathan Southern

Though profoundly heroic and courageous, the real-life story of South African entrepreneur Isaac Ochberg was quickly overshadowed by the passage of time. The tale hearkens back to 1921, when the Russian people endured a miserable period; war, disease and famine wiped out hundreds of thousands, while an untold number of others were murdered by an anti-Semitic genocide that swept through the land. Many of the victims of both calamities were in fact parents, which meant that around a million children lost their families. A continent away, Ochberg vowed to make a difference for these lost souls. Jon Blair's documentary Ochberg's Orphans intercuts archival footage and newly-shot material that Blair filmed on the location of the original events, with reminiscences of the survivors.
