Mayuko has it pretty hard: as a poor student with an apartment above a bath house, she's always up all night studying for school and stressing out about her future. How will she survive with a bratty alien girl living in her closet and eating all her food? Niea Under 7 is a mostly light-hearted look at these unlikely friends (and sometimes enemies), produced by Yasuyuki Ueda of Serial Experiments Lain. Niea Under 7 was also animated by Triangle Staff and the characters were designed by Yoshitoshi Abe, both also of Lain fame. This series, however, is far less cerebral and dark, relying much more on comedy while still raising questions about discrimination and stereotyping.
