Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

Actor James Whitmore narrates this look at train lovers' favorite trains, cross-country rides, celebrations, and exhibits. One segment features a train ride aboard the Orient Express as it travels through cities like Paris and Istanbul, while other trains are shown gliding through Ecuador's mountainous countryside, and California's treacherous Donner Pass region. A side trip is also made to Montecito, CA, where adults can travel down a short track while riding in miniature steam engine cars. Railroad hobos are honored in another segment when the program visits Iowa. Viewers are introduced to Steamboat the "Hobo King." Trains are also shown traveling through America's majestic Rocky Mountains, beautiful parts of the Southwest, and troubled inner-city areas.
