Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Andy Warhol once said that everyone is famous for 15 minutes. Had he lived to the early 21st century, Warhol might have amended this statement to read, "Everyone will some day have his own TV show for at least 15 minutes." As indicated by its title, the weekly cable-TV effort My Life is a Sitcom permitted real-life families to develop their own situation comedy series, whereupon the viewers at home were invited to choose which one of the families was the funniest. The eight clans represented on the series were chosen from hundreds, making one wonder the extent of awfulness that had been served up by those who didn't make the cut. After several weeks of impromptu "sitcomedy," the winning family was given the opportunity to star in a "pilot episode" taped before a live audience. My Life is a Sitcom was first aired by the ABC Family Channel on January 20, 2003.
