Anna (Jenny Karezi) is engaged to marry the air force commander Dimitris (Costas Kazocos). Minutes after she accepts his proposal, the news arrives that the Italians have invaded Greece. Anna's fiance, father and brother are all ordered to the battle front. Anna joins the Red Cross to aid in the war effort, but soon learns her father and fiance have been killed in action. She suffers a nervous breakdown when she hears the grim news, and when she recovers months later the Nazis occupy her country. Her brother joins the underground, and Anna becomes the girlfriend of the local Nazi commander to extract information about the enemy. Her spy activities leads to several counter attacks by the resistance fighters, but she soon discovers her fiance is the resistance leader. He had been crippled in the assault on the Italians and refused to let Anna see him in his diminished physical condition. She is captured by the Nazis, but freedom fighters led by her brother come to her rescue. Her mother kills her brother by accident. Anna then watches in horror as a Nazi officer kills her mother in this wartime tragedy.
