Masked Raiders (1949)
by Hans J. Wollstein review

Still basking in the success of Warner Bros' The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), B-Western star Tim Holt returned to RKO with the promises of better scripts and higher budgets. The first Western to qualify was Masked Raiders and the improvements are indeed noticeable. Directed by genre specialist Lesley Selander, formerly of Harry Sherman's Hopalong Cassidy series, the Western was filmed in picturesque Idyllwild, CA, a marked improvement over the usual dreary Chatsworth locations, and a uniformly fine cast elevated Norman Houston's commonplace script from the doldrums. The end result remains one of Tim Holt's very best efforts and a credit to everyone involved, including leading lady Marjorie Lord whose female Robin Hood is at least somewhat believable.
