Synopsis by Mark Deming

Independent filmmaker Mike Hoolboom pays homage to a close friend and collaborator in this documentary. Mark Karbusicky edited most of Hoolboom's films, but he had a rich and varied life outside of his work in filmmaking -- Karbusicky was a passionate animal rights advocate, he worked in health care, was an active punk rock fan and musician and a fierce supporter of his longtime companion Mirha-Soleil Ross, a transsexual performance artist. In 2007, Karbusicky showed Hoolboom how to use new video editing software on his computer, and a few months later Mark took his own life. Hoolboom's film Mark pays tribute to the life and accomplishments of his friend, using home movies, still photos and interviews with Mark's friends and loved ones to paint a portrait of a man who made a difference in the lives of many people despite a reluctance to take center stage in his actions. Mark was an official selection at the 2010 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
