This Norwegian drama tells the story of Maria, a 40-year-old single, twice-divorced mother of three. She's a surgeon by day, a mother by night, and has more than enough to keep her busy, but even still, she is convinced that she could use a man in her life. She begins dating but finds that the process is no simpler than it was the first time around. She first meets Fredrik, the head doctor at her hospital, and instantly it seems that he's perfect: wealthy, responsible, 52 years old, and the owner of a fine vineyard in France. Things go swimmingly with him until Maria meets Jonas, a 25-year-old ambulance driver with a fun spontaneous streak that Maria's been missing. With her head pulling her toward Fredrik, her heart pulling her toward Jonas, and an ex-husband demanding full custody of her children, Maria begins to wonder if she'd be better off without any of her men.
