Padudu is a 12-year-old apprentice witch heading off to the coliseum, a competition in which magic warriors represent their towns and use their skills in order to decide who is the best. She is armed with nothing but her magic fish coat, which keeps her both warm and nourished, but this is not enough to keep her from being swept away by a river during the course of her journey, landing her in the middle of Dance Valley. Here she is captured by the local officials who are hoping to eliminate the competition. However, Padudu has talent, spunk, and a few tricks up her sleeve to get her out of the dungeon and into the winner's circle.
