Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Though its title translates as The Lights of Buenos Aires, this romantic drama was filmed in its entirety at Paramount's Joinville Studios in France. When his car breaks down somewhere in the "sticks" of Argentina, a theatrical impresario seeks shelter in a nearby farmhouse. Overhearing a girl singing, the impresario convinces her to leave her sweetheart and head to the Big City to become a star. Her rural boyfriend is heartbroken but refuses to go after her. But the hero's two best pals are not so shy: sitting in the theater during the girl's stage debut, they literally lasso her and drag her back to her lovesick beau! No one took Luces de Buenos Aires seriously back in 1931, and no one should do so today.
